St Albans City and District is home to a vast range of excellent leisure facilities designed to suit all ages and interests. For those who enjoy fitness and sports activities, there are various sports centres to choose from, whilst if you prefer more relaxed pursuits, there are plenty of opportunities ranging from walking and cycling to golf, horse riding and fishing.

Leisure centres around the district

Swimming pools can be found at Westminster Lodge and Harpenden Swimming Pool. These centres, together with Redbourn Recreation Centre, also offer many other facilities including table tennis, basketball, badminton, volleyball, indoor hockey, football and netball. For the latest in gym equipment, try out the facilities located at Westminster Lodge, London Colney Recreation Centre, and Harpenden Sports Centre.

Tennis

Batchwood Golf & Tennis Centre provides outdoor tennis facilities which are ideal for everyone from the occasional player to the semi-professional. Outdoor courts are also available at Harpenden Leisure Centre, London Colney Recreation Centre, Clarence Park and Verulamium Park.

There are plenty of fun activities for children and families to do all around the district, and you can find out about some of them here.

AdiZone

The adiZone in Verulamium Park, has been designed and developed by adidas, Official Sportswear Partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is a giant outdoor multi-gym facility which boasts sporting facilities that include a basketball, football and tennis area, a climbing wall, an outdoor gym and an open area to encourage dance, aerobics and gymnastics.

Greenwood Park

Greenwood Park consists of 60 acres of green open space. Families can enjoy a healthy walk through St Julian’s Wood, through the hay meadow and across the fields. The children’s play area offers a large variety of entertaining play equipment as well as nearby family picnic areas. The park offers a variety of activities, such as football, cricket, tennis and badminton.
