St Albans at Christmas itinerary
The perfect city destination for groups looking for an alternative, more boutique-style, European Christmas Market.
Explore the most picturesque area of the city with a fascinating Historic St Albans - A City Revealed tour, taking in the medieval Clock Tower, Tudor buildings, and the ancient marketplace, before heading to the Christmas Market to enjoy a glass of gluhwein.
You could also include a festive tour of the city’s iconic Cathedral with the ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’ tour. Taking inspiration from the traditional song, the tour explores this magnificent building at Christmas, revealing quirky and little known festive facts along the way. Pre-tour refreshments when you arrive in St Albans can be booked at the Abbot’s Kitchen, located at the Cathedral.
Available: Throughout the Christmas Market opening dates - 25th No to 23rd Dec. The ‘Twelve Days of Christmas Tour’ is available at 11:30am on selected days throughout December.
Duration: Half day or full day
Points to note: due to the historic nature of the area, some pavements are uneven, particularly the area around Vintry Garden. The Market is extremely busy at weekends, and so we advise you to bring groups on weekdays for a more relaxed visit. The Charter Market, with up to 150 stalls, takes place each Wednesday and Saturday, and offers a vast range of non-Christmassy goods.
Key dates: Carols on the Hour takes place at St Albans Cathedral on 16th December 2017.
