With temperatures peaking to unprecedented highs the advice is to keep hydrated, keep cool and find shade. Retreat from the heat and head to one of the many local attractions that offer a cool spot to sit, reflect (and enjoy the aircon!)
Sea breeze! Head to St Albans Museum + Gallery and bring the beach to you when you take in their amazing interactive ‘St Albans on Sea’ exhibition. Did you know there are ships named HMS St Albans and HMS Verulam? Then head down to the subterranean cells which have been fully restored and preserved for future generations. Revive and refresh with a drink and a bite in the octagonal courtroom café. With so much to take in, you can easily fill a morning or afternoon in this fantastic space. Open 11 – 5 pm. St Albans Museum + Gallery
Open daily from 8.30 – 5.30 pm – St Albans Cathedral offers cool relief from the heat. The historic building with its ancient air conditioning system (its thick stone walls) keeps the building wonderfully cool, providing sanctuary to all from the sun and a marvellous moment of calm. Keep hydrated with a visit to The Abbots Kitchen which is open between 10am – 4pm and serves a wide range of food and drinks!
The Cathedral & Abbey Church of Saint Alban
Built on the site of one of the largest Roman cities in Britain, Verulamium Museum is filled with ancient treasures and some of the finest mosaics outside of the Mediterranean. Bring the entire family and explore the wonders of Roman life, immerse yourself in recreated Roman rooms and admire the craftsmanship of the intricate large-scale mosaics on display. There is plenty to do for younger visitors and the museum provides a selection of free activity sheets for children and dressing up clothes on weekends and during school holidays!

Books and sunshine go hand in hand! Enjoy the super chilled environment and discover new favourites at St Albans Library. Located upstairs in the Maltings, this is a heavenly haven from the sun. Open 12-4 on Sundays and from 10am during the week!
