Making it Big! 2 Feb 2019

The Herts Big Weekend 2019 will take place on 6 and 7 April. Families across Hertfordshire will soon be given the chance to win tickets to a host of top attractions and fun-filled activities across the county when the Herts Big Weekend 2019 ballot opens on 21 February.

This celebration of tourism, run by Visit Herts, is aimed entirely at Hertfordshire residents, inviting them to celebrate the best attractions and activities that the county has to offer.
For this one weekend, during English Tourism Week (30 March – 7 April), residents will have the chance to enjoy a day out in the county for free, discovering and rediscovering the amazing things to see and do. They can then spread the word about all the superb attractions they have experienced with their visiting family and friends.

Herts Big Weekend 2019 will see a huge variety of exceptional tourist attractions and related businesses across the county donating free tickets or experiences for residents. Some of the county’s biggest attractions have signed up to this year’s event giving residents plenty to choose from – with a select number of pairs or family tickets available for each.
In St Albans, residents will have the chance to experience tours of the Cathedral’s Norman Tower alongside delicious cream teas in the Cathedral cafe, Abbot’s Kitchen, fun family days out at Willows Activity Farm and tasty fresh meals at Lussmanns Sustainable Fish and Grill restaurant.

There will also be tickets on offer to top attractions such as St Albans Museum + Gallery, Verulamium Museum, the Clock Tower, and St Albans South Signal Box.
City tours will also be on offer from the St Albans Tour Guides as well as treats from the Clarion Collection Hotel and Torrington Hall. Residents will also enjoy offers from the award-winning Ye Olde Fighting Cocks, England’s oldest pub serving up delicious food with a healthy helping of history on the side.

Visit Herts chief executive Deirdre Wells OBE said: “Tourism is an important part of Hertfordshire’s economy and while we strive to attract new visitors to our county from London, the rest of the UK and abroad, we must never forget that our own residents are our greatest ambassadors who support our industry week in, week out. This is essentially why we created the Big Weekend – to give residents a free day out to say thank you, and to create positivity and enthusiasm for their wonderful home county. It is also about delivering the message to residents that there is so much to see and do right here on their doorstep. This year looks set to be the biggest Big Weekend yet, with so many of our St Albans partners signed up to be involved – it really is a wonderful opportunity for discovering and rediscovering a whole host of superb attractions and activities – with the added bonus of everything being so close to home.”

Residents can get their hands on the tickets by pre-registering for tickets now and then entering the ballot when it opens on 21 February. When the ballot closes, hundreds of pairs of free tickets will then be dished out to the lucky winners.
