Mark Gilbank of Tinkletorium 27 Jun 2022
Making a splash on George Street is Mark Gilbank of new boutique bathroom shop Tinkletorium. Offering luxury bathroom solutions, Mark told us more about his new stylish showroom which opened just over 2 months ago.
Great name – tell us more? I wanted a name in keeping with the Roman history of the city and a TinkleTorium was a Roman bathhouse or place to tinkle. It’s a quirky street, so we have a quirky name. It’s fun and lots of people talk about it and take photos.
What brings you to George Street? I have a trade plumbing shop in Park Street and wanted to try something new after running that business for 28 years. St Albans is a vibrant place so here I can use my experience and choose quality, stylish products to suit the people of this city.
What do you sell? Everything for your bathroom including toilets, baths, showers screens, basins, taps, mirrors etc. The showroom allows customers to understand the quality of our products, browse catalogues and receive expert advice.
What is popular now in bathrooms? With lots of period properties in St Albans, traditional bathrooms are popular. We are asked for black and brushed brass appliances as well as chrome which is timeless. Today there is so much choice that customers can have al
Tell is more about your business? We keep up with trends and go to tradeshows regularly so we can offer new products to our customers first. Excellent service is also important as we want our customers to make their bathroom the best they can. I like to focus on UK suppliers when I can, and we always recommend local fitters.
What do you like about St Albans? There is great community spirit and I have received a lovely welcome from the neighbouring shops. I like to get involved in the local community and sponsor one of the St Albans City Youth teams.
What does the future hold for Tinkletorium? We want to be known for great service and great products and to build a strong reputation in the area. We want everyone to fit out their bathroom with us!
