SAVE ST ALBANS PUBS

Home Blog General SAVE ST ALBANS PUBS

SAVE ST ALBANS PUBS 13 Dec 2021

St Albans pubs fundraise hundreds of thousand of pounds annually for local and national charities, community groups and individuals in need. Charities supported include The Ollie Foundation, Rennie Grove Hospice Care, Youth Talk, Hospice of St Francis, Earthworks and many more. They also provide in-kind donations and time and you will find St Albans pub landlords and staff walking, running, or slogging it out in the mud to raise money for charity.

What We Are Campaigning For

In 2017, central government dramatically increased rateable values for too many pubs. The rateable values for pubs are derived from a number of factors including turnover or what is called ‘fair maintainable trade’.

Save St Albans pubs believes that this formula is flawed and is essentially a turnover tax sufficient to turn a modest profit into a whopping loss. The formula penalises pubs located in high value property areas such that they have no choice but to put prices up, or shut down.

STICK ONE IN THIS CHRISTMAS!

Once again our independent pubs and restaurants are thrown into chaos with Government Announcements causing vast cancellations of Christmas bookings as Covid Restrictions start to rise…

Our “Stick One In” campaign from the original lockdown was a lifeline for pubs with people buying vouchers to redeem once pubs reopened or buying stock from closed venues. The response from St Albans was incredible.

We are now asking companies who have decided to cancel their work parties to consider buying their staff a gift from the pub or restaurant they are cancelling.

Most venues offer vouchers or drinks hampers and many are offering additional experiences for companies to buy and use once restrictions are lifted.

So if you have to cancel your booking please consider the pub or restaurant who rely on Christmas for their business and ask if they are offering vouchers or other experiences. Use your company budget to buy a gift from them instead ??

PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL INDEPENDENT PUB, RESTAURANT AND CAFE THIS CHRISTMAS ???

OUR PUBS

THE WHITE SWAN

The White Swan is a traditional Irish/English pub situated in the historic market town of St Albans. With its own tail of endless history from the last 250 years, The White Swan is proud to be sited within the bells of our Abbey, St Albans Cathedral. Affectionately known as “The Dirty Duck”, The White Swan is a great place to relax and take in the local hospitality. A traditional pub with a great atmosphere. We have a warm and welcoming atmosphere, a range of Beers, Cask Ales, Fine Wines and Spirits. A brilliant venue for Live music every weekend.

THE BLACKSMITH ARMS

A charming pub located right in the centre of St Albans.

It’s the perfect place to stop for a relaxing drink, with its superb selection of cask ales and traditional ciders. You can enjoy great food, at great prices. We also have possibly the best garden around, with plenty of seating and outdoor TV screens ensuring you won’t miss out on any of the sporting action.

Parties and functions are also welcome, our Forge (external cabin) is a popular option.
