#SpotlightOn Jefferson Crafts 24 Sep 2020
The spotlight is firmly on 24-year-old Danni, founder of family run sustainable business Jefferson Crafts, as she has recently won in the Young Market Trader of the Year 2020 awards.
Set up by entrepreneur Danni in 2019 following a business degree at the University of Hertfordshire, Jefferson Crafts offers a range of eco-friendly everyday items and has traded on our Charter Market since inception.
From reusable cotton make-up wipes, to fabric bowl covers, to hand-knitted soap savers, this business is fuelled by its passion to help people minimise everyday waste with handy, reusable (and gorgeously designed) products.
Furthermore, Danni helps reduce the amount of cotton destined for landfill by using end of rolls, ex display, quality seconds, off cuts or misprints. They also take donations of unwanted fabrics, which can be dropped off at their stall.
This business is going places. We caught up with Danni to find out more:
Congratulations on your award win! Tell us more
As a member of the National Market Traders Federation I was (unknowingly!) nominated by someone for this year’s awards. I made it to the finals in Stratford-Upon-Avon and was so excited to be named as Arts & Craft winner for London and the South East!
What makes your business unique?
We have an ethical heart and all our products are aimed at helping people reduce waste and keep a low carbon footprint by shopping locally. We only use sustainable cottons and use services like Freecycle and Freegle for other fabric and craft materials to try and stay sustainable and maintain competitive prices.
What are your best sellers?
At the moment, our most popular items are make-up wipes, baby wipes and kitchen towels. People love the prints as they are bright and colourful and the materials really do stand the test of time. Our make up wipes are great value. They come in packs of 5 – with either a soft or exfoliating back – and are £6 per pack or 2 for £11.
What do you like most about trading on St Albans Market?
I love the community aspect of the Charter Market. Talking to people and knowing that every day brings new faces, because people in St Albans are really good at recommending what they like to others.
What inspires your designs
Customers! Talking to people each week definitely helps us to develop new product lines and make sure that we get the pricing right. All our designs are centered on creating colourful and practical products that make peoples’ lives easier and are kind to the planet.
And finally, why should people come and see you?
Because we are a caring company! We have products everyone will love and that will definitely reduce your household waste. Also, we have just released a brand-new product… a facemask with its own washbag. The bag helps to keep your mask clean when out and about – then put the mask in the bag and pop it in the washing machine. Priced at £10 for the mask and bag together with sizes and styles to suit all.
