Family Fun in St Albans This Summer 29 Apr 2026

Long sunny days, school holidays to fill, and plenty of ways to keep little ones smiling, summer in St Albans is all about making memories together.

Whether you’re planning a full day out or just popping into the city centre, you’ll find festivals, performances, trails and hands-on fun around every corner. Here’s ten things to do in St Albans this summer.

  1. Celebrate Alban Day (20 June)

Kick off the summer with one of the most colourful and exciting days in the city’s calendar. Organised by St Albans BID in partnership with St Albans Cathedral, Alban Day transforms the city centre into a lively celebration of history, community and creativity.

Families can expect a joyful atmosphere filled with street performances, music and plenty of opportunities for children to get involved. The vibrant procession winds its way through the streets, capturing imaginations with costumes and storytelling, before the day builds to a dramatic re-enactment of Alban’s story. It’s a brilliant way to introduce younger visitors to local history while enjoying a fun day out together.

  1. Seaside Fun at the St Albans Pop Up Beach (8–23 August)

You don’t need to travel far for a beach day this summer. Right in the heart of the city centre, St Albans Pop Up Beach brings a taste of the seaside to town.

Children can dig and play in real sand while parents relax nearby, soaking up the summer atmosphere. With rides, activities and plenty of treats on offer, it’s an easy and enjoyable way to keep the whole family entertained during the school holidays. Whether you stay for an hour or make a full afternoon of it, it’s one of those simple experiences that always feels special.

  1. Outdoor Theatre with OVO Theatre Company

Summer evenings in St Albans are made for outdoor theatre. Each year, OVO Theatre Company brings the Roman Theatre of Verulamium to life with a seasonal programme of performances running throughout June, July and August.

Families can look forward to a mix of imaginative productions, from classic tales to family-friendly shows, all performed in the open air. Bringing a picnic blanket and settling in as the sun goes down adds to the experience, making it feel relaxed, memorable and just a little bit magical for children and adults alike.

Along with shows there are sunrise and sunset yoga classes from 10th June – 15th of July.
