Harpenden Town Council’s VE Day video

Harpenden Town Council is putting together a video that will incorporate elements of the celebration that had been planned to take place such as the playing of the last post, Battle’s O’er and a toast to the heroes of World War II.

Residents have displayed peace birds in their homes and their photographs will be used in the video, which will be broadcast on the Town Council’s Facebook page during the afternoon of 8 May.

A wartime singalong

To pay tribute to our Second World War generation when many public events have been cancelled, Thameslink and Bedford to St Albans City CRP are celebrating the 75th Anniversary of VE Day with a 40-minute singalong of wartime songs by 1940s-style singers ‘The Femmes’ for online broadcast from 8 to 11 May.

This is part of its ‘Caring for the Community’ initiative which aims to provide people with a sense of community and some much-needed escapism at a time where many of us are feeling distant from our loved ones. It’s intended specifically for audiences in schools and care homes, as well as CRP members and followers. You can see the performance from 8-11 May (and even sing along!) at tinyurl.com/FemmesVE75concert
