A cycling paradise, St Albans has routes for all ages and abilities from experienced bikers to leisurely cyclists with plenty of family-friendly trails. Plus, with a remarkable history and reputation with food and drink, there’s a great choice of pubs, cafés and delicious eateries ideal for refuelling. St Albans & District Cycling Map

1. The Abbey Way

The Abbey Way is a 9 mile signed route for walkers and cyclists passing through the Colne Valley between Watford and St Albans. A mixture of traffic free sections and quiet roads links the two towns with Park Street, How Wood, Bricket Wood and Garston. The Abbey Way Cycling Map

2. St Albans Recreational Cycle Route 11

A cycle ride from St Albans (route 11) visiting the Alban Way, Sandridge, London Colney, Tyttenhanger and Colney Heath. There are three circular routes, from 4 miles to 18 miles. St Albans Recreational Cycle Route 11 Cycling Map

3. The Alban Way

The Alban Way is a traffic free multi-user 6.27 mile route along a former railway line and links Cottonmill Lane, St Albans to Wrestlers Bridge, Hatfield. It is an important link in the local sustainable transport network and forms part of Route 61 of the Sustrans National Cycle Network. The Alban Way Cycling Map

4. St Albans Green Ring

St Albans Green Ring offers you the chance to get out of the traffic and into the fresh air on a new network of paths encircling the city centre. The Ring is a continuous walking and cycling route covering 6.5 miles of open space, parks, nature reserves, and heritage sites. St Albans Green Ring Cycling Map

5. Wheathampstead Loop

Stretching 14 miles leave St Albans and head to Porters Wood and Sandridgebury Farm then on to the pretty village of Sandridge. Skirt the edge of the beautiful Heartwood forest to historic Wheathampstead and then cut across to Harpenden before heading back to St Albans past Harpenden Common and through Childwickbury. St Albans & District Cycling Map

6. The Ayots

Keen cyclists can enjoy a tour of the Ayots on a picturesque 25 mile ride from St Albans. Head out to Sandridge and Coleman Green before reaching Ayot Green with its pretty village green and Ayot St Peter famous for its Arts and Crafts style Victorian church. Head north through Ayot St Lawrence to Codicote and across to Kimpton before heading to Brocket Hall and then south to Wheathampstead. The final stretch leads back through Sandridge before reaching St Albans. The Ayots Cycling Map
